Happiness Is Dance

Recently Two Peas in a Bucket celebrated Pea1's birthday with a challenge to create a layout inspired by one in Kristina's gallery. Here's Kristina's layout:

And here's mine:

I loved how Kristina built her page with strips of patterned paper that stretched two thirds of the way across the page. I tried to duplicate her layout in a 12x12 format with the beautiful papers and stickers from Pink Paislee's Bayberry collection.

I don't know why "c" in dance looks like it has a different pattern but here's a close-up to prove that the letters are all the same!

In addition to the chipboard letters, I layered tags for the title. Then I used a K & Company rub-on to ground it.

I used Jenni Bowlin butterflies and some bling to create a sense of movement along the page.

My Grads

When I graduated elementary school the same year that my sister graduated college, my parents gave us a joint party. Mark and Melissa's back-to-back graduation days last June also called for a joint celebration and a layout about my graduates. Here it is:

With the exception of the stamps, all of the supplies for this page are from Pink Paislee's new 365 Degree collection. I just love the colors of this collection and see myself buying more of it.

I started my layout by using the ledger as my base. This was the B side of the beautiful red and white patterned paper. Since I had only purchased one piece, I cut a square piece from the lower right corner since the hole would be covered with the circle paper. This was an economical move but I so wish I had bought another piece of this paper! Before adhering the red and white design to the ledger paper I used my exacto knife to fussy cut it.

Journaling reads: Two days, two graduations! Mark earned an award for outstanding achievement in computers. Melissa received the Music Excellence Award and the prestigious Superintendent's Award. I am proud of you both!

I definitely recommend getting the punch-out die cuts that go with this collection. I used four on this layout alone -- one for journaling, another to stamp the word "my" in the title...

...a third for Class of 2009, and the last one is popped in the lower right corner. I also liked the cork elements that you see below.

Finally, another new product I used on this layout is the Pink Paislee Artisan Elements. These self-adhesive embellishments feel a little like Silly Putty. In their raw state, they are white but you can ink them or paint them like I did.

Once in a Century!

So what were you doing on July 8, 2009 at 10:11 a.m.? While reading various blogs this past summer, I saw a lot of scrappers preparing pages for this once-in-a-lifetime moment and decided to join in the fun. After all, what better way was there for me to tell the story of what Mark and Melissa did this past summer. So I took pictures (well actually I had Mark and Melissa reenact the moment) but sadly didn't get to the layout for a while. Finally, here's my layout called "07-08-09 @ 10:11":

First, can I just say that having a title with all numbers is a great way to use up some of your sticker stash. LOL!

Here are some details about the layout. I knew that I wanted to journal on this layout but I didn't want a strong journaling block so instead, I used the Jenni Bowlin tickets. The journaling reads: "It only happens once each century. Melissa was at field hockey camp & Mark was training for East Meadow High Cross Country."

I added texture to the layout by running the blue medallion paper through my Cuttlebug using a Swiss Dot embossing folder. I then lightly sanded the paper to make the dots pop. I used the Pink Paislee arrow sticker and added a Making Memories tiny alpha "w" to mark that this date happened on a Wednesday. I then added more tiny alphas to the top of the arrow to create my "Where Were You?" subtitle.

I added doodled rub-ons and some lines with a white gel pen to add a little touch of whimsy.

My visual triangle was completed by the "LIVE" Bingo card. I was thrilled that numbers 7 through 11 were on the card so I highlighted them with a stamp as if I was playing Bingo!

Melissa pointed out to me that I could do another layout like this next year on August 9th at 11:12 a.m. I just might do that!
